Editing the content on your Yell.com business listing is simple with our self-service tools. Take control of your listing content to make sure your business information is always kept fresh and up to date.

You can update the content of your Yell business listing via the Yell for Business app or your online Yell account.

A Call Counter number enables you to see information about calls to your business from your Yell Ads. This helps prove their value and return on your investment and shows useful information such as date and time stamps, call duration and caller’s number so you can identify customer trends.

Is there an additional cost for having a Call Counter number?

No, Call Counter is included with Yell Ads to help track the number of calls received via paid adverts on Yell.

Will callers know that this is not my direct number?

No, your Call Counter number features your local area dialling code and connects directly to your landline or mobile.

How can I track how many calls I’ve received via my Call Counter number?

We will provide you with a maximum of two trackable, geo-specific Call Counter numbers per advert. You can then view your call tracking analytics in your online account at https://auth.yell.com/ or the Yell for Business app. In the app, tap ‘Account’ then ‘Analytics’, and then scroll down to ‘Contacts’ and tap the ‘View details’ button. You can toggle between Line and Bar view. By default, it displays total calls for each month over 12 months. The navigation bar in the top right (three dashes) allows you to select ‘Call Analytics’ which will display all your calls by time, date, duration, caller’s number, and linked number. Scroll down the screen to also see visual charts. You can identify if you are answering all your calls, plus any patterns and trends.

I have more than one business location or advertise in more than one area - can I have multiple geo-specific Call Counter numbers?

Yes, we can supply you with multiple Call Counter numbers dependent on the number of Yell Ads you have.

In this scenario we would provide you with separate Call Counter numbers for your landline and mobile. Please be aware that both numbers listed will appear to be a landline number but will divert to your linked landline or mobile accordingly. We advise not to mix Call Counter and non-Call Counter numbers in adverts so we can report accurately on call volumes.

I have multiple adverts and areas - will I be able to see which performs best?

Yes, Call Counter allows you to track the performance of each advert. If you have Yell Ads covering multiple areas, you can monitor the performance of each area and category.

Can I use my Call Counter number in other places?

No, your Yell Call Counter number should not be used in any other adverts, including other Yell products such as Websites or Smart Performance. We also advise not to display your Call Counter number on vehicles, premises, stationery, or other marketing materials as this will skew the results of your Yell Ads performance.

What happens if I don’t wish to have a Call Counter number?

The benefits of Call Counter are considerable. It’s not always convenient or possible to ask your customers where they found out about your business, and often they don’t remember correctly. Call Counter alleviates this issue, and helps you understand the full value of your advertising on Yell and how customers are finding out about your business. If you cancel your advert containing Call Counter, we will disconnect this from your business number. If you decide to re-advertise your business on Yell, then we will set up a new Call Counter number for you.

As a consumer looking for a business, how do I use the new Job Posting feature on Yell.com?

Job Posting is a new feature on Yell.com which you can currently access via mobile device (desktop and app functionality coming soon). When searching for a business in your local area on the Yell.com website on mobile, using a postcode based search you will see a blue button labelled ‘Post a job’. Click on this and you can provide details of what you are looking for, then submit your request for relevant local businesses to review and respond to. You will need to create a Yell.com account if you do not already have one.

Once your request is posted, relevant businesses in your local area will be notified of your Job Posting. For each business that expresses an interest in fulfilling the job, you will receive an email from Yell with information on that business and a selection of reviews from their Yell.com listing.

Once you have chosen which business you would like to contact, simply click the Message Business button in the email to send them a message.

As a business, how can I use the new Job Posting feature on Yell.com?

Job Posting is a new feature on Yell.com (currently available on the mobile website, with desktop and app functionality coming soon) which allows consumers to post a job request for their chosen classification in their local area. Businesses with paid Yell.com advertising can get access to these Job Postings, and express interest in them.

Using the Yell for Business app, business owners can:

Get notified of a new job in their business classification within 5 miles of their location
Search for relevant jobs on a local and national level

Business owners who express an interest in a job will have an overview of their Yell profile and a selection of any reviews you have on your listing sent to the consumer by email. Consumers can then message their chosen business to discuss their project in detail.

How does Job Posting add value for both consumers and Yell customers with paid Yell.com advertising?

We regularly develop new features to enhance Yell.com for both businesses and consumers. Job Posting has been introduced to offer consumers the ability to post their needs and receive responses from local businesses prominently listed on Yell.com. This addresses the needs of consumers who prefer to post their job rather than contacting several different businesses individually. For business owners with paid Yell.com advertising, this provides a new way to obtain more potential customers at no additional cost.

Business owners with paid Yell.com advertising can increase the likelihood of being chosen for Job Postings by updating their profile information and requesting more customer reviews. Switching on notifications for the Yell for Business app also ensures a business is instantly notified of new opportunities in their area and chosen business classification.

What can I search for on Yell.com?

With Yell’s first search box, you can enter services or types of businesses, such as ‘Plumbers’ or ‘Pizza’. If you are looking for a particular business, you can also search by individual company name. Then just enter your location in the second box, and Yell.com will show you the most relevant businesses near you for your search.

How do I look up a particular company name?

Simply type the company name into the first search box (‘Plumbers, pizza or company name’) and our search engine will try and find the matching company.

You can also use our auto-suggest feature, which contains the majority of the companies listed on Yell.com. Just start typing and then select one of these suggestions which our search engine recommends as a match.

How should I phrase my search?

If you’re not sure how to express your search, our search engine can help you find what you’re looking for:

The search engine can autocorrect some mis-spellings
The auto-suggest feature can help you with how to phrase your search.
It understands many synonyms, e.g. that ’24hr’ means the same as ’24 hour’ or ‘M&S’ means ‘Marks & Spencer’
You can separate words using spaces and/or commas, e.g. the search engine can interpret any of the following searches:

I can’t find what I am searching for

If for some reason Yell.com has not found what you are looking for then there are a few things you can try to improve you search results:

Try entering your search with quotations, e.g ’24hr locksmith’. This will make our search engine look for an exact phrase match for what you have entered.
Try entering your search term followed by *. This will show you everything that starts with your search term.
Try changing the location you are searching in.

What locations does Yell.com recognise?

You can search Yell.com by:

Village, county or region name, e.g. Kingston Bagpuize, Abingdon, Oxfordshire or South East England.
The first part of a postcode, e.g. RG, RG10, W, W1 or W1A.
Yell.com will search throughout the UK if no location is entered.
Popular tourist areas, e.g. Forest of Dean and the Lake District.
Unitary authorities in England, Scotland and Wales, e.g. North Lincolnshire, East Ayrshire and Pembrokeshire.
Other administrative areas, e.g. Ards District Council in Northern Ireland and the London Borough of Hillingdon.

Yell.com does not recognise the location I’m looking for

To find what you’re looking for:

Check the spelling.
Try shortening your location to three letters or more followed by *. For example, searching for War* would suggest a range of locations such as Warrington and Warwick.
If you know the first part of the postcode, search by postcode e.g. RG, RG10.

How do I get a map showing a company’s location?

If a business has their address listed, you will be able to get directions to their location. From a search results page, click on the map in the top right. On the businesses listing page, click the ‘Map & Directions‘ button to open the map.

Where can I find businesses in my city?

Yell.com has dedicated local homepages for our 22 most searched cities, including London, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and Nottingham.

How do I update or add content to my Yell business listing?

Occasionally Yell.com content will be rejected by Apples Maps. In most circumstances Yell will handle this on your behalf by modifying the data we send to Apple. However, where your business location does not comply with Apple’s criteria for being displayed on Apple maps, primarily when the location is a residential property, your Apple Messaging will not be activated. Yell is currently working with Apple to overcome this issue. As soon as a resolution has been agreed, we will activate your Apple Messaging.

Navigate your search results on Yell.com with ease, with our user guide to results pages, business listings and company details. Find out how your results are ordered, how to contact the business and which results appear in your Yell search.

What results appear in my search?

The initial results are companies which are based in or serve your search location. As you move through the pages there are more matches – these companies may not be physically within your search location but do serve your location.

To change how your list of results is sorted, selected the ‘Sort By’ drop down menu at the top of the results. Here, you can choose to sort by distance from your location, the area the business serves, star rating or most reviewed businesses.

What do the buttons in company results mean?

For each business we list a name, address and telephone number, where the company make these details public. From the search results you can also:

Click on the “Website” link next to a company’s name to take you to the company’s website, where they have one.

Clicking on the “Email” button to directly contact the business through our online contact form.

Click on the telephone number to call the business from your mobile.

Clicking on the business name will take you to the Business Profile Page, where you can find photos, videos, reviews and more business details.

How are my search results ordered?

Our search engine will try and show you the most relevant businesses to your search on the first few pages. The relevance of a business is calculated on how well they match what you are looking for and how far away they are from where you have searched. As you move through the result pages you will see your results becoming less relevant and further away.
